Led since 2006, Fluid is an original and daring public art course. Arousing emotion, curiosity and reflection, the works exhibited outside the specialized places marked the territory of a significant footprint. Following three convincing numbers, the team perpetuates and strengthens this course of contemporary art to make it an unprecedented event of international stature.
In 2015, Fluid, a public art program organized in Thuin in partnership with the BPS22, invited about twenty artists to invest the city to insinuate some aesthetic disorders and thus activate its heritage. Fourteen works, permanently installed, continue to make art dialogue with the past of this ancient medieval city.
This year, ten contributions are added to the original fourteen works to transform Thuin into a true open-air museum. The selected artists traveled the city, explored its smallest spaces, learned its legends and daily practices, met the Thudinians and listened to their story to immerse themselves in these places.
All have one thing in common: they enter into a dialogue with the environment in which they work and view the place as a material. From the existing, the artists have designed specific projects for in-situ interventions in places taken on the city: the Belfry, the Song of Birds, Hanging Gardens and alleys, the Wood of the Great God, the Sambre and the former shipyard of Thuin …

THE WORKS 2018
Participating in the charm of Thuin, the hanging gardens have, once again, been particularly invested, questioned and re-envisioned by the selected artists. In popular parlance, the gardens and the Quartier de la Piraille are called “Pays des Choucas”. Charlotte Beaudry pays tribute to them by creating a monumental painting that salutes the presence of the bird king of the place. Through a dreamlike and monumental sculpture, Serigne Mbaye Camara comes from Dakar to report the lack of water supply for the hanging gardens. GRIZZ (studio of architecture, design and urban interventions co-founded by Luigi Greco and Mattia Paco Rizzi) reinvents, starting from materials recovered in the old demolished casino, a work to live, suspended space on the hanging gardens .
In the Wood of the Great God, Mario Ferretti breaks down and recomposes two ancient trees of the Drève artists promised to disappear. Cathy Coëz immerses herself in the story of the place called Chant des Oiseaux and revisits the forgotten columns of this memorial place. Inspired by real events, personal or collective, Mostafa Saifi Rahmouni sought the most urban places of Thuin to evoke the resistance of its traditions and beliefs. At the heart of the remains of the last shipyard, Pauline Debrichy evokes the rich boatman past of Thuin. Finally, close to the myth and the actuality, Lola Meotti invests the Belfry as a video projection space and questions the space and the identity of this highly symbolic place for the Thudinians.
