Mattia Paco Rizzi defines himself as an ‘architect by education, artist by vocation’. Working across multiple media, the artist’s practice is a delicate balance of art and architecture, reinforced by his knowledge of construction techniques. His approach is rational, disciplined and poetic, and is centred on all kinds of hybrid characteristics that trigger the artist’s internal dialogue.
Taking some almost impulsive sketches as a starting point, these creations are transformed into tools for meditation. The initial spontaneity of the movement is gradually replaced by technical precision and in-depth design research. His works reflect his deep human and artistic attachment to improving his relationship with the audience. The human being (without revealing too much) is the principle material in his architectural work. The audience can interact with his installations, simultaneously becoming a viewer, a user and an interpreter. This work is aesthetic and his aim is to reduce the elements in order to express their universal simplicity.
Mattia Paco Rizzi recently founded GRRIZ with Luigi Greco. The branding studio focuses on architecture, design and public spaces. Together, they took part in MAXXI Rome 2015 and the Venice Architecture Biennale 2016.
